The Linden Archives

The Linden Archives were created primarily over a decade from 1990 to 1999. Touring the queer scene of mostly northern England with the occasional foray south to London and Brighton for major events. The photographs were commissioned by Gay Times and All Points North Magazines for scene reviews which I also wrote the text for. In the 2022 the archive was digitised and led to numerous magazine interviews, BBC tv and Radio appearances and to date 2 photobooks published. The main viewing platform for the photographs now is on Instagram @linden_archives

POP & ROCK

Across the early 2000’s Stuart’s photography focus moved to live music, mainly for the local newspaper the Harrogate Advertiser, covering major artists of the era such as Paloma Faith, Rita Ora and the Stereophonics and the occasional festival.

International

Away from the purpose of publishing I spent a great deal of time travelling around the world and of course my camera came with me. Here you’ll see a small taster selection of those journeys. I am always amazed on my travels b, the people, their lives and how they live. In India the colours and sounds of life in the cities compared to the peace of the countryside was striking.

in the uk

My travels also took me on frequent journeys across the UK and here you’ll see a few of my favourite locations for various reasons, some personal, sentimental or because they speak to me about life and quiet often my own life and living in the UK.

"Rhodes’ extensive collection of photos offers a euphoric deep dive into a thriving queer night life."
